House O draws on the spatial relationships of Jiangnan houses and gardens rather than reproducing their forms. Set within a water-town village in Suzhou, it brings pitched roofs, courtyards and changes in level into a contemporary setting for family life.
Lower eaves and staggered rooflines shape a stepped volume. A curved wall guides movement, while openings, glass blocks and shifts in floor level establish connections beyond individual rooms. Light and air move through these interfaces, allowing spaces to remain distinct yet perceptibly connected. A courtyard tree becomes a shared visual centre, and terraces extend domestic life towards the village and waterways.
White walls, exposed concrete ceilings and timber furniture keep the expression close to the materials themselves. The house balances openness with shelter, preserving connections between family members while giving different activities their own scale.
